Aqaba and back to Eilat

The return drive to the Eilat border crossing was uneventful. The guide insisted we stop for tea at a plaza in his home town of Aqaba, which is just across the bay from Eilat. It's a major industrial port, but , unlike Eilat, there was little evidence of people walking around enjoying the evening. The plaza was almost deserted despite the cooler breeze of the early evening. The guide was insisting on getting Lily's email address, which was annoying. The guide claimed to be a professor of archaelogy as well as architecture and that he had tought at Columbia, Berkeley and the Sorbonne. Unlikely.

In any case, it was interesting to drive though the Jordanian port city which was clean and prosperous looking, although remarkably few people were out walking around. We were dropped off at the border crossing and were quickly processed through, and then were met by our Israeli guide and brought back to the hotel. All in all, it was a great day!
